The official name of the Castle site park was revealed yesterday as part of the Castlegate Festival and we can now confirm this will be ‘Castle Hill Park’ reflecting the historic name of the site stretching back to just after the demolition of the Castle in the late 17th century. A number of other options were also considered, but ‘Castle Hill’ was the name that kept cropping up when looking back through all the old maps of the past 3 centuries.
The decision was reached after canvassing all members of the Castlegate Area Board and Partnership groups which include local organisations and stakeholders in the area.
At the same time, 5 large display panels were revealed showing the timeline of the Castle site from earliest beginnings to present day, picture attached from Castlegate yesterday.
